Shadows of the Oral Traditions

Contemplated by the FUNARTE Aesthetic Interactions Award

 

Work that we developed for four months at the Pontão de Cultura Cia Bola de Meia in the city of São José dos Campos in São Paulo. Our meetings were marked by experimentation with shadow theater and dialogues about the oral traditions of the region. Many images and scenes emerged from these conversations that later resulted in the show Much More Life Severina. The oral traditions and the stories of the artists from that point of culture served as inspiration for a trip we took to the countryside of Minas Gerais in 2011 behind Folia de Reis.
