We spent 4 months together with the caiçaras in the city of São Sebastão, on the northern coast of the State of São Paulo. We learned much more than we taught, the exchange of experience and friendship were the gift we received during this dive into the caiçara culture.

 

We found the theater group Quarteto D , São Sebastião/SP.

 

The rescue of the caiçara culture began with the search for stories giving voice to the grandparents and great-grandparents of the community. Young people interested in theater got involved and were our partners in this endeavor. With the support of the local newspaper, we published 6 caiçara stories from the region's elders rescued by local youths. The shadow theater show, POVOS DO MAR, emerged from this research: Caiçara poems, music and aesthetics permeated the creative process.
